Head Kitchen Gardener - required for Doddington Hall’s newly restored 1.9 acre walled kitchen garden growing a wide variety of fruit and vegetables for sale in the successful Doddington Farm Shop and for use in the busy café. Doddington Hall is a privately owned historic house which is open to the public and the kitchen gardens are also regularly open to the public. There is currently a schools programme being developed which focuses on the Kitchen Gardens. There is a team of volunteers who help both in the Kitchen and Ornamental Gardens. The garden is run using the best horticultural practices including organic principles, biological control, growing heritage vegetables etc. The applicant will need to work closely with the farm shop staff and chefs, as well as visitors, press & volunteers.
This is a very exciting position as the successful applicant will be involved in a new and successful project in a dynamic and growing team at Doddington. The post requires someone who is passionate about growing and eating veg., energetic, knowledgeable and experienced in kitchen gardening. It is essential that the applicant is a team player, with a flexible approach and happy to work with volunteers of all ages and abilities. The gardens are an increasingly important part of the visitor experience and they have a growing reputation, which demands the highest standards in presentation. The ornamental gardens have recently been filmed for BBC Gardeners World and have also been reported in The Sunday Times, Kitchen Garden Magazine, BBC Homes and Antiques and the Mail on Sunday.
The successful applicant will be supervising volunteers and a part-time gardening assistant and will need to train and motivate their team. They should be happy to deal with the public, young people on work experience and school children. For further information please visit: www.doddingtonhall.com
