Thank you for using this forum I hope someone helps you in your quest to trace your past. I would love to learn more about how the Armstrong's managed to come from the Borders of Scotland as the most feared Border Reivers of all (we were theives). Go to America and become Native Americans. One of the Armstrong's must of married into the Native American Tribe or something but I don't think they could of been Full blooded Native American's. I hope this does not affend you, it is just that I am interested that is all.

My branch of Armstrong's came from West hartlepool to Australia in 1926, their names being Ernest and Annie Armstrong. Ernest Edward Armstrong served in WW1, his enlistment number was 27111 E E Armstrong GNR 29th Div R.A, R.F.A, B Battery he served on the front for most of the war and spent the last 3 months of the war at a German POW camp at a place called Frimly, while he was gaurding the German Prisoners he made fiends with a German Officer who liked to paint. The German Officer painted some pictures of the area, one of the painting was of a bridge over a railway line at Frimly, he gave the series of paintings to my Grandfather and later promptly hung himself from the bridge in the painting. My Grandfather kept these paintings all his life. During the WW2 my Grandfather enlisted in the Australian Artillary and served with the seventh Garrison Battalion. He was Discharged from the Australian Army suffering from a severe mental disorder, he lost faith in civilisation and died an alcoholic in 1954 there was not any counciling for ex-servicemen in that era. He loved the pipes and often told my Aunt that he had heard the tune Flowers of the Forest played at soldiers Graveside more times than he had breakfast in any Ten yrs of his life. His Father was Richard Armstrong brn in Arkengarthdale Yorkshire and his Father Robert Armstrong was born in Fremington Arkingarthdale and his Father Robert was born in Hexhamshire Bywell and so was his father Robert Armstrong the furtherest back is 1690. sierra_87@msn.com |
