Message:   I apologize if this message is sub-par. I am writing at 3:30am and I am extremely tired, However I am awake and had some time to thank the great people of Crescent City.

I arrived in Crescent City in late 8th grade at Crescent Elk Middle School. Like most new students I was greeted with a wide welcome. Coming into my Freshman Year of High School I immediately joined the football which I continued into my sophomore year.

I feel into drugs and alcohol, even more than the average high school student. I began drinking every day during school, hiding alcohol in a soda bottle and drinking it during class. I also began to sell illegal substances to the student body. Eventually I was caught and booted off the football team.

Even though I had lots of friends and made impacts on the community and student body I finished my senior year with a 1.8 GPA, the second lowest in my graduating class. My friends and family were hurt and astonished that I did not receive my diploma on stage with them at the graduation ceremony. Even more I was bewildered at my poor performance.

I went into hiding. Abandoning my friends and family, living in my car and trying to maintain numerous jobs just trying to survive. I realized my failures were not my families nor friends faults, but my own.

The outcomes of my failure lead to my success. I joined the United States Army. I have been awarded numerous awards including my airborne badge. I am now a paralegal for Special Operations Command, and I am also a full time student at Campbell University. I major in business.

Being in the military we have lots of time to think. I realized if it was not for all the teachers at Del Norte High School, guiding me and motivating me to better myself I would have ended up in jail or death. My friends gave me love, my teachers gave me motivation and knowledge and my family Richard and Debbie Hennesey gave me wisdom and discipline.

My goal is now to leave the Army soon with an outstanding record and because my GPA at Campbell is close to perfect I have a great chance to be a transfer student to the University of South Carolina. The University of South Carolina has the best International Business Degree program in the nation. It is my mission to attend school there and accomplish my masters in that program.

My dreams and accomplishments are a reflection at the support I received in Crescent City. Thank you for making this all possible.
