2008 RUMORS
With the 2007 season closing up, the 2008 season is already underway. With some teams building new cars, others repairing old ones, and some just looking for a break. A few things to look for in the 2008 season will be the possibility of some new faces in the late-model division at the Indianapolis Speedrome. Some of which will be new names and other may be returning faces to the sport of figure-8 racing. In 2008 the Tunny's are hoping to add a sixth race car to the field with the addition of Bill's youngest son Austin. Austin will drive the #14 car, which is Jesse old #57, this car was also driven by Ben and Bill for many years. Bill's plans are still in the air last I heard, he wants to race with all of his sons before he retires, but is currently looking for a car. Jesse will take over Bill's #7 car for the full season in 2008. Look for Ben and Mark to return in familar cars, and Bruce to possibly have a new car. Long time super late-model competitor Johnny Miller is looking forward to making his figure-8 debut in 2008. This long time Sunoco Series competitor has been out of action in recent years, but has purchased the old #55 car of Kenny Hacker to run at the Speedrome in 2008. The Hargraves' are looking forward to expanding there operation to three cars in 2008. With the acquisition on the #19 car from Mike Nelson. Charlie will be driving the same car, and Johnny will move from his familar #31 modified into the #2 car, and the #19 will become a back-up car for the team in 2008. Charlie will be running a full season in 2008, Johnny's plans are still up in the air, but he is hoping to run a full season and contend for the rookie of the year in 2008. Jimmy Kirby is runored to be having a new car built, along with getting his #11 rookie of the year car repaired for the 2008 season. One could think that this may be for some guest apperances from brother-in-law Robert Amos. The former figure-8 winner was seen late in the season crewing on Kirby's #11 car, and with Robert currently not racing in 2008, maybe one the best from 90's will return in 2008. Former rookie of the year driver David Morris, who competed for many years in the stock class, after winning a stock championship moved into the late-model division. He was smooth, consistent driver, and then one year seemingly just dissappeared. After the 2006 season Morris purchased the Greig car that was driven by Eddie VanMeter in 2006 world championship. Hoping to return in 2007, but never did, look for Morris to possibly pop up a few times in 2008. Former Jeffersonville Champ Mark Harmon is rumored to be giving up is Extreme ride to the younger Cory Harmon for the 2008 season to focus more on the outlaw car. Nothing confirmed yet, but look for the red #35 to pop up for the big shows at the Speedrome in 2008 and add some southern excitment to the late-model division. Lot's more to come in the days to come. I will update you on these stories and post many more in upcoming weeks. To come this week, more new faces, some old faces may return, and review on on the new cars for old drivers. Also look for old race reviews from the outlaw days also. That and more, stay tune....... 12/10/2007 |
