new driver cpc
can anyone tell me as a cpc holder for psv transport operations will drivers have to sit the new driver cpc as well or can you be coverd with exsisting cpc. also can anyone clarifiy if the driver cpc will allow bus and coach operations by all drivers

Jason, The CPC in National Passengers ops doesn't cover you for the Driver CPC. They are two separate entities. It would be lovely but the point would then be lost. I have held my CPC for two years but haven't driven a bus for 3 years. I know I can get into a bus and after two minutes it all comes flooding back but knowing when a service inspection due or what folder the CoIF is in is no guarantee that I can actually drive or that I am up to date on road law. I see the reasons and agree with the reasoning behind it but tarring everyone with the idiot brush feels unfair, especially having the National Passenger. On the second point, allow bus and coach ops by all drivers....can you clarify what you mean? As long as the drivers holds the correct driving license for the vehicle they are expected to drive, he or she can drive whatever with age restrictions possibly applying in some cases of route length. The CPC simply means that the driver has a proven training record. CRB not included. The best website to check is http://www.route-one.net/documents/drivercpc_poster_web.pdf It gives you a poster version of all the rules. Well worth a visit. I hope this helps. Furthermore, you could contact Wright Training Services in Thurrock. They run loads of courses and I expect they will be delivering some kind of assistance to those who decide to become trainers for the new CPC. Hope this helps... |

Found this today while looking through old copies of Route One http://www.tangerine.uk.com/TangerineFAQsDriversCPC.htm Cut andpaste into the address bar....something very interesting on the site....and I quote "In reality a driver could wait until the last week of the five years to undergo Periodic Training, but we would not advocate this. One of the reasons the Directive has been brought in is to ensure that professional drivers get continuous developmental training that enhances their profession. In practical terms delivering one days training per year is much more manageable than a five day course delivered in one go" I won't worry just yet then, I was going to get the training as soon as possible, just to say I have done it but if the directive leaves it this long..........not good, not good at all. |

Hi. There is a lot of misunderstanding surrounding the DCPC. Primarily because it was given the wrong title by Europe, it should have been called the Driver Certificate of Professional Development, then it would not be mixed up with the Transport Managers CPC. I have found a website www,Driver-CPC.biz which has some easy to read information, they are also an approved training centre for the DCPC. When does the training need to be done, yep that’s right you can wait till 1st Sept 2013 to do your DCPC, but, you then have to start again for the next 5 years. If you do it now in the first year it is done and you can then wait 9 years before you do it again, just think? 4 million Vocational Licences, 750,000 driving professionally, what’s going to happen if everybody waits to the last year? This is not going away, it is statute law, if you want to drive professionally then get the qualification as soon as you can. It is an attendance course, over 5 days or 1 day a year or one day a month, whatever you or your employer wants to do. It has to be of 7 hours duration though. Hope this helps Peter |
