Male Dominance

I am fuming. I get busweb mails (does anyone else?) and there's an advert for a driver to help move a bus from London to wherever. I quote....." we are looking also for storage will pay driver for his help" His help? HIS! Hang on, I have been a driver since the late 80's and still people think that bus drivers only come in one sex!

Are there any other women on here that have found the industry to be full of sexist dinosaurs? I would have helped, I would have done it for free just to drive a Daimler again but they can shove it up their exhaust pipe!

Thanks for this site, and run by a woman too!

Re: Male Dominance

Michelle,
You haven't left an email address so you won't see the replies!!
I have just checked my busweb mailer and you are quite right, it says 'His'. Although I agree that there are two sexes in the industry I am guilty of using him/he/his instead of him and her or he and she. I am a woman in a male dominated industry and accept that some men think women should be tied to a sink, and equally they must accept that I think they are 'dinosaurs' as you put it.

While I accept that some men in this industry should be retired to an ark somewhere away from polite society there an extraordinary amount of men who champion women drivers and managers. The evidence is clear. Recruitment drives are generally run by women and there is a clear indication that women, far from being employed because of the 'PC Brigade' they are being employed because we have a different perspective and it aids the industry as a whole. I myself have worked under a female manager and to control a depot of men I can't think of a better guv'nor!

Can't say I would want to drive a Daimler, Titan's for me please!!

Re: Male Dominance

have to say its never really been an issue for me as ive always seen it as a male dominated industry and as long as the job gets done and gets done well it doesent matter, so i just go with it coz at the end of the day there are good and bad of both male and female
