My maiden name is Mary Appleton and I was born near Middlesbrough. I have traced my father's family back to 1841 - one Thomas Appleton aged 40 living in Cronton village, Prescot. I am sure that Appleton Village is the "old ancestral home". Must visit sometime. It's not too far as I now live in Preston.
