well, last year andress lost to carlsbad, so you never know. I think it might also depend on where the game's at & which team is traveling, cuz some teams don't travel well. chapin could beat mayfield in the future, though maybe not next year. might've beat them this past season if we played them

in the past few years las cruces has beaten andress. ruidoso has beaten montwood. artesia has beaten riverside. mayfield has beaten montwood. gadsden has beaten franklin. alamogordo and roswell goddard have also beat some of ep's elite teams.

Travel would be a big factor to some. And I think it's been a long time like 8 years (maybe)or longer that Mayfield has been beat by an El Paso team i know they had some close games with Irvin when they were on top and a few years back beat Riverside when they had their run. Montwood should have beat them this past year. Franklin went back and forth with Las Cruces High but i think Franklin won more than they loss. Clovis has never played an El Paso team. So can't really say too much about them other than their rich in tradition for winning championships. And Artesia They'res not a team in El Paso thats in their class that can beat them. Albuequerque schools are a lot like a El Paso. To many schools to really compete year end and year out for a championship. Although Albuequerque has a better chance due to the size of the state they play in.

i believe gadsden beat franklin in 2001. i am not sure about the year, but it is a fact that they beat the cougars. mayfield beat riverside in a year when the rangers were loaded, they had jordan, stephenson and carillo in the backfield. mayfield was the state champ that year. i compare mayfield to wolforth frenship in size and speed, most years. i have seen frenship vs ep teams over the past 7 years and they have yet to lose to ep.

mayfield also needs to understand that they were really lucky for coming out with a win from el paso. I don't know if they were having a bad game but montwood looked way better that night.

Drewski, who do you guy's play outside of El Paso other than in the playoffs that really is a contender to a state championship? The Days of Midland Lee and Odessa are long gone. 4real 4real, now come on. You talk alot about how el paso teams are nothing in texas. Yet your state championship team that is so awesome barely beat Montwood last year by one point. Not only that it was a low scoring game.

you're comparing an entire STATE to one city who isnt exactly known for their dominant football, montwood is a good team and you beat them last year, but they got knocked out first round like we did, so while you may be able to beat most of the terams in el paso, if you were to play some other big name teams in the rest of the state, you would get railed.

Franklin would dominate any New Mexico school period! New Mexico should stick to a sport they are known for - like calf roping or horse back riding. Come on Texas is a football state!! It's been hard, but El Paso teams are finally making a name for ourselves in the state.

Coronado has beaten Gadsden numerous times and they played Alamogordo in a scrimmage.

Franklin has won the vast majority of games against NM teams. Especially in the past few years. They were killing them. That is when it would have been nice to play and beat Mayfield.

I did a little research and i wanted to point a few things out about Mayfield's (MHS) record against EP Teams in the past three years.

06/07 MHS beat Montwood 15-14
05/06 MHS beat Americas (35-0) who was 2-7 that year
04/05 MHS beat Americas (42-0)who was 4-5 and Socorro (42-20)who was 2-7
That same year (04/05) Mayfield lost to Las Cruces 31-10 who was creamed by Franklin 40-20. I also believe that Montwood beat them that year aswell but couldn'f find the score.

My argument here is that over the past several years Mayfield has played the teams in El Paso that for the most part sucked. EP's 5A teams were busy playing Odessa Permian, Midland Lee, Midland, Lub. Monterrey, Lub Coronado, etc... in the pre-season.

This past year is the first year MHS played one of EP's top teams and they barely won by a single point. What I am saying MHS is that you are the best in your state. You have also finally played and beat one of the best EP had to offer. Don't get a big head because you beat up on our teams that sucked for the past several years. Continue beating our better teams and you will get some respect.

P.S. No offense to those EP teams listed but you did suck those years.

I remember watching Mayfield scrimmage Andress 2 years ago and they got crushed (1st year Andress was 4A). I heard from some Andress guys they canceled the scrimmage the next year.

Saying Mayfield hasn't played good teams from El Paso isn't true Mayfield back in the late 90's beat Riverside and Irvin both when they were top teams in El Paso.

Franklin#1 you were right EPGridiron had highlights of the Franklin and Las Cruces game. They emailed me the code and told me to copy and paste it wherever I wanted it to show. Crazy I was only a soph back then.

Basically what I am saying is that you can definitely say you haven’t lost to an EP team in 12 years because that is a fact. You cannot claim to be better then the entire city and not expect to be told that you are crazy.

Montwood is one of EP's best. Typically it's between Franklin and Montwood but this past season I believe it was Coronado.

well its impossible for mayfield to schedule franklin montwood and coronado. the best way would be at the end of the year to have the best el paso team play mayfield. hopefully el paso knows who their best team is by then.

Montwood should be able to handle the Job next season regardless if they are the best or not.

That channel plays the best games from different states. Unfortunatly for NM, Mayfield is the best it has to offer. It will be funny when you beat clovis on TV and while on TV they mention how the only loss you have came from an El Paso, TX team. Then the commentator will say "Yes Rob, they are on a whole different level in Texas".

thanks for the info elvis. i am from ep but i will not miss that game clovis vs artesia. both of these nm teams have played ep teams in the past. i think i know why artesia is on--it's their qb. he is a senior this year and verbally commited to oklahoma. he is about 6'4 in height, has a cannon for an arm and is very fast. he is listed in many publications as a top 5 qb recruit, at least a 4-star prospect. too bad artesia did not schedule any ep teams this year.

El Paso has been beating NM overall for the past 3 years, probably more. This site only has the last three years and EP is winning the series 20-14. So I would bet on EPT winning over NM overall again. I actually think that Mayfield is going to get their first loss in a while when they face off with Montwood.

El Paso only leads the series cause you have some of your better teams such as Coronado, and Franklin playing against gadsden which is New Mexico's worst team.

Mayfield and Las Cruces can be considered at, or very near the top right now in New Mexico, If this is going to be a smack talking fest, I think the games speak for themselves.

05-06 Clovis (ranked #2 in NM) beat 5-6 Pampa (rated #379 in TX) 34-13

Also, Clovis is 5a. Pampa & Palo Duro are both 4a teams who rarely ever go much further in the playoffs (if they make them at all) than EP teams.

I know for a fact Clovis has never even played Odessa Permian or Midland Lee, because both those schools have posted records of all their games dating back to the 50's & 60's on their websites. closest thing is when a California team called Clovis East played each team once & when Permian whipped Roswell twice in the 70's. you're comparing one of the best teams in the state of New Mexico to mediocre Texas 4a teams (whom Clovis went 2-2 against). so please enlighten us to the big Texas teams Clovis has beat & when it occurred.

This is kind of a useless arguement.

First, those that say that Texas football is better than New Mexico, of course, Texas football is better than EVERY state.

Second, El Paso, in my opinion only qualifies as Texas football because of geography. Because, I have lived all over Texas, and Texas Football as I know it is not occuring in El Paso. El Paso can call itself "Texas Football", but cannot and will never compete in "Texas Football." I mean, every time I tell my boys that, they point out the fact that Montwood lost to Permian by only 20 and was competitive throughout. That's you're argument El Paso!

You know what Foshizzle, that sounds like the same attitude Big Sprins Head Coach had about EP teams before playing Chapin a few years back. If I remember his qoute after he lost the coin flip and had to play in EP "Why would I want to go to EP anyway, they should have to play at our home" meaning were not good or respected enough to come to EP to play against, we should've been honored to go to their house to play. Well they lost 62-42, and ask Aledo if they still have the same thoughts about EP teams, they beat us in overtime.

New Mexico's best is better then el paso's best. In the el paso vs. new mexico I noticed El Paso record was 10-7 vs New Mexico last year 8 of those wins were against Gadsden, Santa Theresa, and Chapparal. They also left off the Mayfield win over Chapin. Should be some more good games this year!!
