I sit tonight with tears in my eyes as I realize this will be the last season we share together. My entire life since you were 4 has been dedicated to you, my son, and your sports. You were 4 when you started sports, soccer was your love back then. Years of year 'round soccer turned into baseball and football. I took you to practices and cheered for you at games, always holding my tongue when I though the coaches made wrong decisions for you.
Football became your love, your passion, and so, mine as well. Many years of fear, training, love and support have all come down to this - your final high school season.
In the morning we will have your senior varsity pics taken, then our "mother and son" pic taken. I will proudly wear your jersey for the football moms pic. I will cherish the day. A day of recognizing where each of us is in our lives.
College football may come, it is your dream, after all. The dream of a scholarship, maybe a walk on, the dream to keep playing the game that you love. All I want is for you to be happy. But, we can't dismiss the importance this game has played in our lives.
Football has meant a total commitment to your game, your teammates, your body, your soul.
I have watched you grow from a boy to a man, football being a big part of that growth.
Good luck on your senior Varsity season, my son. Go for your dreams and be proud of your accomplishments.
I love you.

Brings tears to your eyes, after she drove you back and forth during two a days, spent a small fortune feeding you afterwards, and being the one that comforted and cheered you up when you had bad days at practice, or stood behind you on those days when you really felt like quitting the team

I guess this could be said of any parents that have taken their kids to the first day of Kindergarden. This is also my last year of practices and games, As my late dad said, " It sucks to get old."

This is my son's last year too. It seems like yesterday that he put the pads on for the first time. I think all of us on Gridiron can agree on one thing, our love for this game called "Football". Great post Football Mom.

Re: Confessions of a football mom
Last night was a special night dedicated to seniors and their parents. As I waited for the football players to come out and join us on the field I thought gosh this is it, no more high school football. I will truly miss watching my son during practice and in the games. I will truly miss the friendships I have acquired throughout these 4 years and the wonderful boys that have become friends of my son. Yes, time does fly and with tears in my eyes, I would like to thank all the coaches, trainers and teachers who have been involved in making my son such a wonderful young man. I will not look back with any regrets because there is none, instead I will look forward to college, new memories and a new adventure!

Re: Confessions of a football mom
I too am an ex-football mom, my son graduated in 2007, but I love football so much that I just adopt new sons and cheer them on at every game! It's bittersweet but my love for the game is too great to stop. To all the moms that take the time to learn the game just so they can impress their sons I salute you! You boys better appreciate what we moms go through watching their babies get hit, after all you are still our babies!!!!!!
