I played College Football.

My alma mater is Abilene High, so tonight is bitter sweet because I wanted to see the Eagles play the Wood.

I never thought Mansfield would beat Abilene. Mansfield lost to Arlington Bowie 51-0. I didn't think they were any good cause they were 6-4. I don't know what happened. But, Abilene was good, really good. Top 5 in the state good top 50 in the nation good.

Montwood I feel catches a break with this upset and beats Mansfield. If Abilene is out, my loyalties turn to El Paso schools. Good look to the Wood, I am behind you.

The Montwood Varsity Team isnt only playin for a win, theyr playin for a school and a whole city. I think the Wood wins this one. And I also think they the only team playing after this weekend. El Paso as a whole may have not closed the gap between EP and the rest of Texas, but the Wood has.

My friends remember that in the playoffs there is no time to think. You already know your assignments and know how to play the game. It's all about reacting with speed and being aggressive on EVERY play and not letting up at anytime. EVERY play must be played as if it's your last. That's the mentality of out of town teams. That's why they go for it on 4th and long even if they are winning in the first quarter.

EVERY play must be played as if it's your last. All out. Charge, attack and go get what you want. Don't expect the ball to be thrown perfectly in your hands. Montwood has a great chance to win their upcoming game due to the fact that Mansfield is very inconsistent. I believe that if they get in their heads early in the game they should win this one. This team isnt as good as Lee. So get out there and get it done. Below are all the teams that beat Mansfield this year and you will see that some of those teams werent that good. Except for Bowie who crushed them!

you guys have no idea what you're up against. I was sad to see my eagles lose last week. But mansfield flat out beat us. This looks like a team that turned it on in the last part of the year.

Stepfan Taylor has the ability to make Montwood look silly.

And they have the ability to go vertical with the passing game if necessary.

Either way, it's a good game.

That back Mansfield has is good no doubt. But that is why the games are played. Montwood had no chance of beating lee and look where they are now. Which ever team wants it the most will be moving on to the third round. Franklin of 2004 beat Lubbock Coronado, then lost to Midland 30-34

Franklin of 2005 beat San Angelo Central, Mansfield Summit, then lost to euless trinity.

Montwood of 2004 beat Lubbock Monterey, then lost a heart breaker (sorta) to big bad abilene.

Only one team has ever beaten a metroplex team. That is Franklin in 2005, and the victim was mansfield summit ironically.

Mansfield is located on the outskirts of Arlington right outside of Dallas/Ft.Worth.

And as for Texas stadium, I really doubt coach veliz would come back to el paso. If his team is doing so well playing away, WHY THE HECK WOULD HE NOT GO TO TEXAS STADIUM!!

Great game by Montwood, but I hope our El Paso teams learn that you have to make adjustments at Half Time, and the Offense needs to have something new to show the defense in the second half. Big Mistake not going for the Field Goal in the first hal, and not protecting deep with 45 seconds to go in the half. Montwwod is still setting the example for El paso teams though. We all need to learn from their example and their shortcomings!!

I don't know if I buy the Montwood "setting the example for El Paso thing." Thet didn't go any farther than other El Paso teams already have, Frankin recently comes to mind. A 28 point loss to OHS, and a 22 point loss to LC Mayfield not to mention the loss to Socorro. Solid win over Lee but remember that Lee was the 4th and last qualifier out of 2-5A. Tonight a blown lead to a 7-4 Mansfield team and a second round exit from the playoffs. Montwoods a decent enough team, but are light years from contending for a state title. Veliz has done a great job there and they will continue to be an EP power and playoff experience should help them in the long run. This "setting the example for EP" is crap though, what's the example? losing in round two of a six round tournament?

Permian has been doing that great either though, cannot get past the 3rd round since like 1991 or so.

more than likely Allen...which I believe Permian will beat. The week after that will be Plano or Trinity....which is the fourth round. However, I do believe Plano or Trinity might give you problems. They are both run teams with great size and I'm afraid if they pound it at you all night it cuold give you some problems.

Plano is giving Trinity fits right now. 21-14 and Plano is driving..it is in the 2nd. PHS has history with both teams, so they would welcome the chance to play either.

Many of you Montwood followers complained that the paper put a broke back mountain picture of Montwood players and here you are complaining that EPGridiron is being disrespectful. You are so full of it or should I say full of yourselves. Montwood followers what the hell do you want from the media??? You didn't do anything special this season. Many El Paso teams have been to the 2nd round of the playoffs.

No that is Montwoods problem. Veliz caused a huge penalty in the Mansfield game for being on the field??? That penalty turned the whole game around.

No, I don't think that one penalty change the game on Friday. That other team just had a running back that simply could not be stopped and they were converting on crucial 4th down plays. So one penalty changing the game, I think not!!!!

yeah montwood is good n all but only against ep teams i mean they say oh STATE IN 08 hahah just give it up district champs is the only thing montwood will ever be and that's it they alwas get knocked out of the playoffs and oh well to bad they will nvr win state

With all of the feelings being displayed after the football season is over for most of the EP area. Ya just gotta luv what is going on in Midland after Lee lost to an El Paso team. Montwood really raised some eyebrows with that one.

Who knows..... It may even cause a coaching change at Lee.
