Re: Upgraded to Crystal Reports 11, Reinstalled CRD

Go to the Windows Start->Programs->ChristianSteven->CRD folder. Click on Change Crystal Version and select the new version of Crystal. Then CRD knows you have chaged version.

Next time when you are installing you should make sure to select Crystal 11 at the last part of the installation.

Re: Upgraded to Crystal Reports 11, Reinstalled CRD

I apologize, I should have said CRD does recognize I'm using Crystal Reports 11. When I did the reinstall, it asked if that's the version I was using. I did select "yes." I also just went the way you suggested and selected it that way. However, I still get the same error message when I try to open CRD.

I also didn't include this in my original email. But, while the CRD service is running, we get this email over and over:

-----------------------------------------------------
Date: 9/29/2006 5:12:55 PM
Error Description: Could not create a handle for Crystal Reports.
Cannot create ActiveX component.
Error Number: 7
Error Source: _CreateCrystal

Re: Upgraded to Crystal Reports 11, Reinstalled CRD

Are you using Crystal 11 developer? Because it sounds like CRD cannot see the developer dlls...

Re: Upgraded to Crystal Reports 11, Reinstalled CRD

When I go to Help>About, it looks like it's 6.1. Build 20060927/110. Enterprise Edition. How do I upgrade to a higher version of CRD? I went to the site and downloaded the full version when I did the latest install. After installing I reactivated. I can uninstall, but I'm trying not to lose any of the scheduled reports already out there.

Re: Upgraded to Crystal Reports 11, Reinstalled CRD

It is not the edition of CRD I am asking, it is the edition of Crystal Reports. Have you installed Crystal Standard, Professional or Developer?

Re: Upgraded to Crystal Reports 11, Reinstalled CRD

Yes, Crystal Reports Professional, version 11. I've checked for updates. I just installed this version (which is when my problems started, but I need the new version because we no longer have the disk for the old version, and I can't add anything without the disk, which is limiting what I can do in CRD).

Re: Upgraded to Crystal Reports 11, Reinstalled CRD

As per the CRD pre-Requisites document, CRD does not work with Crystal Professional. It needs the dlls which are in Crystal Developer. The error message you are getting is because it cannot find these dlls.

Once you upgrade to Crystal 11 Developer, CRD will start working again.

Re: Upgraded to Crystal Reports 11, Reinstalled CRD

I don't know why I didn't notice that before? We were using Crystal Reports Professional 9 (which worked), so I must have just looked at version number, not whether it was Professional vs. Developer. Is there any way around this? Or is it a licensing issue with Crystal Reports?

Re: Upgraded to Crystal Reports 11, Reinstalled CRD

What is more likely is that you also installed another application which comes bundled with the CR 9 developer dlls. As they were on your PC CRD just went ahead and used them.

You need to have the dlls actually physically on your PC for CRD to be able to interrogate your rpt files.

CRD doesn't come with these dlls so you have to get them yourself by buying and installing Crystal Developer.
