Elvenwork Forum

This forum has been a way to provide a public exchange of questions and answers for polymer clay sculptors. But, as I said in my final post, there comes a time when all things must end. That doesn't mean the forum used as an archive has nothing to offer. Indeed it is still loaded with questions and answers that remain relevant and which are searchable! For that reason, I'm keeping it available, though no new posts can be added. If after searching the forum your question isn't addressed, Join me on Facebook.com to ask it. As always, you'll find me there as Katherine Dewey. Hope to see you there. --  Katherine

Re: spectacles/sunglasses

I have made wire frame sun glasses by wrapping beading wire around a knitting needle to help form the frames. Once they were formed, I laid them on a piece of glass and filled the center of each frame with acrylic, water based varnish tinted with acrylic paint. The next day I peeled the glasses from the glass. It worked. The varnish I used was Liquitex gloss. While it's not compatible with most polymer clay, it works well for this because it peels away from the glass so easily yet adheres to the wire.
Hope this helps,
Katherine

Re: spectacles/sunglasses

Beading wire is available in varying gauges and hardnesses. It's suitable for 1:10 and smaller scales. A #2 knitting needle is ideal for these scales, but aluminum tubing, available in a variety of diameters, is also ideal. For larger scales, you may want to consider epoxy modeling compound.
Hope this helps,
Katherine
