So many trophies already handed out- and so much of the 2009 campaign behind us. I am again with limited time, but with unlimited respect for those men who are still chasing the dream of a championship. So let's get to it!
Adams Count Patriots @ West Central Wildcats
I'll have to admit that the WCW have been among the greatest surprises for me this season. Going back to their title season, they've been a team much like the Blitz: a small group of hard hitting, well disciplined guys that would be big trouble for any elite team taking them lightly. This year, the WCW are an elite team in the MFL. Larger numbers, more talent and a much better offense than in the past has meant unprecedented success and expectations for the Brazillians. Many have counted the Patriots out of the MFL race due to internal conflicts and waning numbers- but those folks are making a mistake. The Pats still have some of the best athletes in the MFL and a core of very committed experienced players. On the road, though, it won't be enough to stop the Wildcats.
Ohio Force @ Ohio River Bearcats
The Force have been up and down like a rollercoaster in the 2009 campaign. Few teams have had as much tumult and change as have the Force this season. It's clear that the team has the talent to win and win big, but it's never clear which Force team will take the field. The shifting sands of minor league football teams in Western Ohio means that the Force are likely to be a threat down the road, but the long trip down to Evansville spells nothing but doom. The Bearcats are the runaway favorites this season in the MFL and for good reason. This game will be over at halftime and the Bearcats can begin planning to host the title game.
CCL Eagles @ UC Indians
As has been established for many weeks now, coach Maloy's squad is in the midst of what is likely to turn out to be a very tough season. The boys from Union City had much higher expectations thrown upon them, and the team is struggling to find out who they are while trying to make sense of how things might have gone so wrong. The difficult truth is that among the games remaining on the schedule CCL is the very best bet for a big win. One hopes that Beef can use the momentum that the team is certain to gather after beating the Eagles to pick up an upset and head toward the playoffs with some hope. A loss to CCL under the circumstances is absolutely unacceptable. The Indians will win because they must.
Okay, gents. Go to it and make your mommas proud!!!
