Mid States Football League starts this weekend and the Wisconsin State Football League opens play on July 28th. After a team plays 3 games (Preseason and League games) a team can be ranked.

Just curious as to why 'preseason' games are taken into account when coming up with these rankings. Let's be honest, by the time the first preseason game is played, and the start of the regular season...are the teams the same? Are they even close? Take the Tornados - AND NO I AM NOT HATING ON YOU TORNADOS!!! But they had a mediocre preseason. Moving pieces around, molding the pieces until they fit right is gonna take a little time. Now they are undefeated in the GDFL. Why punish them for playing 'scrimmage - mind set' preseason games?

Not trying to stir up the pot, just looking for insight.

Re: AFNT AA Ranking for games played through July 7th

If you notice there are no GDFL teams on the list. FACT: Once you do a dump or GDFL teams into a poll, they absolutely take over the TOP 25 and show strong in the top 10 in the Nation. Out of the ten top teams in the country, polls including the GDFL are typically 40%-50% run by the top GDFL teams.

GDFL teams are ranked in AAA not AA. However, this still does not answer my question as to why the 'preseason' games count for rankings. Everyone knows that the GDFL has good teams...stop thumping your chests about it...."FACT: Once you do a dump or GDFL teams into a poll, they absolutely take over the TOP 25 and show strong in the top 10 in the Nation."

I bet if you did the same poll, but listed the top 25 worst, you would get 40-50% GDFL teams in the top ten of this list as well. Thats what happens when you have 60 teams in a league

Mr. Epic we count preseason due to the fact it is a game. You go out and kick the ball off and try to win that game. College football counts preseason losses. Look at when Appalachian State beat the Michigan Wolverines (I can't stand that game by the way) in the preseason did that hurt there rankings YES it killed them. You can come back from the preseason loss if you play better in the rest of the games you play in. I think the Indianapolis Tornados are a really great team. One of the best teams in the country and in Indiana hands down no questions asked for a long time. If they keep playing the why they are the rest of the season there is no doubt in my mind that they will be ranked back up there again. The GDFL is a well respected league with a lot of great teams. I hope this help out some.

Re: AFNT AA Ranking for games played through July 7th

The Applachain St. game and Michigan wasnt a preseason game! I was not aware that NCAA played any 'preseason games. There are non-conference games and conference games. But they are all part of the regular season. Does it matter if Michigan plays a Non-BCS team? Nope, just hurts their strength of schedule.

NFL: Preseason games dont affect a teams power rankings.

If the Tornados scheduled tough opponents to test new plays, new players, new coaches, etc...were they really trying to win? And if they werent trying to win, then why get punished in the polls?

Re: AFNT AA Ranking for games played through July 7th

I think it is a good idea to have teams a minimum number of games before being ranked, take the comment by mike cameron the Generals will surely be ranked but they should not be ranked right after beating the Nighthawks that team is a brand new team and won't beclose to the Generals so just by beating a team they are expected tpo beat doesn't mena the Generals should be ranked the Generals are a loaded team look for them to spank the MSFL again this year I see another year of blow out games and lots of scoring as the nighthawks will see on Saturday night
