The Force of Illinois regretfully announces the loss of a dear family member. Mike Edgar passed away Monday, 3/27/2006, at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center as a result of complications arising from fungal pneumonia. Mike played for the Force for 7 years. Previously, he had spent shorter stints with the Windy City Rams, Lake County Chiefs and Team USA. Mike also played football for and was a proud graduate of Bolingbrook High School, where he met his wife Jennifer.
Mike's style of play was as big as his personality. He defined tenacity and left 100% of himself on the field each and every game. Mike embodied "team" and showed his allegiance to the organizations for which he played by donning their respective colors from head to toe (both on and off the field). No conversation with Mike was complete without a mention of football. His love of the game was a part of who he was.
In over 100 semi-pro games, Mike caught, ran or threw over 70 touchdowns. He was often referred to as "The Utility Man," playing nearly every offensive and special teams position on the field at one time or another. Mike was a coach's dream and an opponent's nightmare. Mike amassed many accolades over the years, including All-American recognition, Most Dedicated and Iron Man awards. In 2005, The Force of Illinois renamed the organization's award for it's toughest player, the "Mike Edgar Iron Man" award. Following that, his final season, the team honored Mike at a banquet in February by retiring his number. Never again will a Force player wear the number 4.
Although Mike's death was sudden, his life was filled with much joy. In his 34 years, Mike created a beautiful family. His legacy includes his wife, Jennifer, and two beautiful daughters, Jordan (11) and Haley (10). He will be sorely missed by countless friends and teammates. The Force of Illinois bids farewell to one of it's greatest warriors. Thank you, Mike.
