2006 MFL (IN) Schedule is up:
http://midwestfootballleague.com/staticpages/index.php?page=schedule
New team and info will be updated soon. New field info and logos are being worked on. Trying not to be so secretive in 2006, Supa. 2006 is looking really good. Some of the new teams are going to be very interesting. Blitz (Rabar is back), CI Bears, Sting, Dragons, and Titans. Two established teams and the other three are looking very good.
Go MFL,
Scorpions #69
PS: Supa, your league link for the MFL is incorrect and not working. I believe you have the link wrong. Should be:

Thanks!!!
Matt, I noticed that we both have a bye the first week. We should set up a preseason game that week. What would a year in the MFL be without the Scorpions vs. Chargers?
Dan Z,
Scorpions never back down from a game. Everyone knows that. Chargers vs Scorps is always a good game. It is up to Earl. Do to finances he probable does not want to do it, but he might? Good to see you back in the MFL. I hope you enjoy the season. Good Luck!!!
Go Scorps,

Well I'm working on the financial side of things right now. There is one particular business opportunity that might bring us in enough money to finance the team for the entire year.
How much does it cost to run your guys' teams for 1 season? No going around.....just a simple estimate.
dbw,
The costs vary from one team to the next and even more so from league to league. I believe that it is safe to say that EVERY team incurs several thousand dollars worth of expenses just to play out their schedule each season.
Some of the costs that are involved are uniforms, officials, league fees, equipment, and possibly field rental.
Hope that answers your question.
dbw,
I did the math once and I think you could successfully run a team for about $3300 or so. But that depends on what league you're in and how much it cost to rent a field. It is easier in the MFL because I've heard the league membership fee is about half that as the IFL.
I really do not think that the league fee is going to be a determining factor. Even at half it would still be under $4000. I would sayyou have to plan for the best you could possibly do during the season. Most fields are going to run you about $500 per game. That is around $4500 right there. Some fields run up to $1000. Uniforms for a start up with no additional input from the players will be about $2000 (going high). Referees will run you around $150 to $200 per game about $1800. There is $8300 right now. Incidentials including insurance, consessions, League fees, etc. will bring things up to around $10,000. Just to be safe this is what I would shoot for. If you can make that your base for every year then the future will be easier, because the Jersey cost and other incidentials will go down.
fortunately we hit a bargain at 40 per game for our field. we have managed to avoid a lot of huge costs. just have to do your homework. good luck fellas.

Just curious
How will you guys determine who is #1 seed?
Obviously, since we in the IFL also have 10 teams, we had to consider some of the same issues in determining how our schedule will ultimately be made up.
As I see it, without interdivisional games, there is no way to determine which winner of which division should be the #1 seed. Likewise with the others as well.
It would seem that each #1 of either division has a legitimate claim to the #1 seed.
As I mentioned, I was am just curious.
Good Luck to you and your fellow Scorps in your 2006 campaign.
Out
Coach,
I believe the #1 seed will be determined by the best record in the league. If you have more questions there is a thread on the MFL message board as it conerns the playoff format.
http://www.midwestfootballleague.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=1&showtopic=715
And if two teams are tied with the best overall record here are the tiebreak rules.
Tie breaker for playoff seeding is as follows;
1) Head to Head results, if this is still a tie....
2) Best road game winning %, if this is still a tie...
3) Head of Officials performs coin toss, coin is called by team with seniority, or Head of Officials assigns heads and tails
Hope this answers your questions. Goodluck to you and all teams in the IFL this season.

in both leagues, with 10 teams why not have the 4th and 5th place teams play each other in each conference, with the winner playing the #1's the next week. that same week the 2's play the 3's.then you keep the conferences seperate like the big league. just my 2 cents, not that it matters what i think.
TE, because in the MFL you only play teams from your conference all year. It is just nice to mix it up in the playoffs to play some different teams.
Personally, I wish we would play each team once but I understand that's a lot of travelling for some teams.
TE#88 and Coach,
I do not speak for the league, but I will try to explain the thought process. Maybe Dragon or Wolf can help as well. For cost reasons to players and teams with gas going to $3 per gallon or more, we decided that we would use divisions for the regular season. No since for the Pats to travel 4.5 hours play 2.5 hours and drive back 4.5 hours to play the Titans with no real outcome. The Scorps longest away game during the regular season is a 1 to 1.25 hour drive to Winchester, IN. Players do not mind traveling and spending money for the playoffs when everything is on the line.
Since we went with a divisional regular season, no one wants to keep playing the same teams all season, so we wanted a cross divisional playoff. Plus, cross playoff will allow the best two teams the best chance to play for the championship, which is good for the league and players. We discussed cross seeding or open bracket. Either would work. We decided on open bracket seeded tournament. See earlier post by undertaker for ties. Open bracket will make every home and away game critical for seeding. Every game will be important all regular season. Win and you will be rewarded.
You have to fight it out of the playoffs against any and all teams, not just your division. The middle will be mucky, but the teams that advance out of the brackets will have earned it. Win and you will Survive!!!
Go MFL,
Scorpions #69
PS The new MFL board truly has outstanding team reps that I truly enjoy working with. 2006 should be another great season. Good luck to the new teams!!!
just a thought but has anyone thought about renting a bus it wouldnt lessen the 9 hour trip but it may make the cost a little more manageable as we rent a bus for our away games and split the cost between the players and it costs us less than if we all drove seperately. and it might even be cheaper for your closed divisional games
just an idea teams could look in to to possibly save some money
Mustang#72,
Hell I can't get some of my guys to wear clean underwear and bring a mouth piece, let alone meet at the same time to caught a bus, lol. No, I have to many guys coming from to many different areas, but some other teams might be able use a bus. Playoff time we might. Especially if gas prices get as bad as they are saying.
Go Scorps,
Scorpions #69
Scorp,
It doesn't sound like you need my help at all. I think you pretty well captured the thought process involved. The idea of renting a bus has been addressed before with the Patriots. While it seems like an economical way to commute, in our situation it really doesn't work. There is no charter bus company that close, and the schools are seem to be pretty uptight about those things around here. I would like nothing better than to ba able to travel as a team, but then a lot of us would still have to pay for the rest of our families or fans to come and watch. I don't want to deal with my 4 kids AND my wife on a 4 hour bus ride.
Undertaker and Scorp 69,
Thanks for the "illumination" fella's. Best of luck in 06'
