Not many of you are fans of the ACC, so you don't know of him- but DE Mario Williams should go first. He is a beast, and would likely mean more to a team in terms of instant impact than either Vince or Reggie.
He will be terrifying offensive tackles on Sundays for years to come- whether he is first or second in the draft.
have to disagree with dumerville. He is a man child but he has had his struggles. late first round at best. number one, should be leinert. extremely intelligent and gifted as a qb. Young is not a qb, but a running back that can throw the ball. of course, going by traditional qualities.
1st there is no other Gayle sayers. 2nd anybody form USC got pampered way to much and will have a rough time getting the Crap kicked out of them in the NFL 3rd If that wide out form Georgia didnt break his ankle in like the 2nd or 3rd game of last season HE would of been close to number one I think, I dont know the guys name though. 4th I think the Linebacker from IPFW is prolly the best, but he needs to get bigger.
Leinhart has more passing yards, but Young is the better athlete. I hate it when people play the "he is not a quarterback" card. He is a qb and a good one at that. When a player can hurt you passing and destroy you running, it makes it 100% tougher for the defense. Young would make ANY team better. The only reason he shouldnt go first is because the running back position gives a team almost instant production and the Texans need to win now.
Leinhart is a good qb, but I think Young brings more to the table.
Randall Cunningham was a good qb. Look what the falcons are with Vick and look at them without. Im not saying that he is the best qb ever or anything like that, but i think he give a team more than what leinhart would, but yeah your right, the pocket qb has ruled the nfl. Things are starting to change though....
supa, supa, supa, i can not believe what i have just read. you actually think a team is goin to pick a DE as the number one pick in the draft. im sorry to all the DE's in the game of football believe me you all are just as important as any runningback or quarterback but come on. there has never been a DE taken first in the draft and it wont happen this year. the acc was pretty week this year from what i saw but correct me if im wrong. although i believe that the number one pick will have to be reggie bush. i mean how can you not pick this guy as #1 in the draft. they compair this kid to gayle sayers which is one of the best runningbacks in the game of football. better luck next year for the acc huh supa..lol
I did not suggest that the ACC was the best league or that Williams would go #1- just that he was under-rated.If I was a betting man, my money, too, would be on Reggie.
What I did say is that a solid DE has a very good chance to be a differencemaker in the league right away.
I know alot of people were thinking Reggie Bush would go first overall. But I gotta disagree with people who say "you have to take the best player in the draft." If you have both Priest Holmes and Edgerin James (hypothetically speaking) in the same backfield and you're dieing on defense are you really going to take a Reggie Bush at #1? In my opinion you draft to fill your needs not to get the best overall player in the draft.

Thanks for all of the props- but it is really just about doing the research. Today, the game is much more specialized that it was even 10 years ago, and teams are looking to find a player that works with what they have rather than building a team around a talented player.
And in today's game, a productive pass rusher can change a team's fortunes every bit as much as lock-down corner or a 3000 yard passer.
And that is what those folks in Houston had in mind.
Oh- and while we are all on the subject- I hope Vernon Davis reminded you all of what passion for the game is and the positive things that this game can bring. The T.O.s and Romonowskis of the world have done much to injure this game, but it is nice to see someone that can appeal to the best in us.
As one person pointed out. He was not crying tears of joy. He was crying because he knows that Alex Smith is going to be throwing to him. Forever a niner hater
