The debate regarding artificial sweetners is a big one in the diet world. The following is a link to a story posted today on Yahoo. Apparently the FDA has officially approved 5 sweetners as safe for humans over a lifetime, saying that there are no cancer risks to humans from their continued consumption. Splenda is one thank goodness for me.
I felt the need to post the five for all to see in case anyone is using one that is not on the approved list. e
The five are:
* Aspartame: NutraSweet®, Sugar Twin®, and Equal®
* Saccharin: Sweet'N Low®, Sweet Twin®, and Necta Sweet®
* Acesulfame-K: Sunnet® and Sweet One®.
* Neotame: No mention of brand names
* Sucralose. Splenda®
I was aware of four of the five. I did not know anything about Neotame and still don't. I suspect this is used in commercially prepared foods. I will check on this.
I found it odd that there is no mention of heat with aspartame. I suggest that you all give the link that Ben has posted a good read. I just felt we needed a quick reference for any newbies or ourselves.
