Hi all, my question may not be great, but I was reading my booklet yesterday and it says one cup of certain veggies are 0 points. Well what if you have 2 cups do you then have points that you have to count? Sorry for being so dumb about this, but I just need to know, because I eat so much salad. TIA
Hi Steph,
Well, my philosophy is - we didn't get fat eating too many salads or veggies, but if you're worried about it... yes, eventually they do add up because they all contain calories. Everything has calories, they just don't have to be marked on the package if they're under a certain amount for 1 serving. It's kind of like if you eat green beans. 1 serving is zero points, but if you eat the whole can it's 1 point. I'd figure up how much you're eating (if you really feel like you're eating a lot) and then add up the calories. If you need help with this, I can help you. I just need to know the amounts. If you're only having a couple of salads a day and you aren't loading them up with carrots and such, then I'd say don't worry about it. That's just my opinion. I'm sure others will chime in on the subject. :)
Dont worry about that kind of stuff its the 1 point etc foods that can add up. I'm making some veg soup in a minute and I count it as 1 point as it has carrots and turnips in it but if I eat 2 bowls in a day I still add it as 1. I eat the soup everyday as it fills me up and I'm more satified without feeling I'm being deprived.
Thanks so much for the info Aimee & Loraine, this helps me out quite a bit and I think I can then figure out the points. This is my first official week, so I wanted to be doing the correct thing.
Tobe took the words right out of my mouth er fingers! My mom told me along time ago it is not the potato or the bread or the salad, it is what you put on it!
And that is FAT!
So I recommend Girards FAT FREE Ceasar Dressing. If you really want a wet salad. It is VERY low in cals. And Very tasty too! Also you might want to know that we need oils to absorb the nutrients from the salad greens. So adding 1/2 to 1 tsp of olive oil to yourFF dressing helps you to control the amount of cals and fats in the salad, and is also a good way to get in fats and oils and absorb the nutrients the benefits of your healthy eating.
By the way this dressing is in a triangular bottle costs a bit more but is soooooooooo worth it.
Can also be used on artichokes, mushrooms as a marinade and even on chicken or fish.
Hey Jean Cat, the salad dressing you mentioned, Girards, can you get it on the west coast. Like at Winco or Safeway? I live on the west coast and sometimes find it hard finding good WW items. Please either email me or hope to see a reply back on here.
YEP I live in the Orange/Long Beach area and findit at all of the Albertson's, Stater Bros and Ralph's. I hope I spelled it correctly. But if you find something similar in spelling in a TRIANGULAR bottle that is it!
It is usually not on eye level. It is usually up higher or lower. In most stores I have found it higher.
There are a few other Fat Free Flavors, not as many as the Wish Bone or other brands. I just find this flavor to be WONDERFUL and multipurpose.
I thnnk a raspberry vineger(ette) and a balsalmic dressing and Italian are the main FF in this brand. Not too exciting.
A wonderful salad I make with it:
Canned or cooked chicken breast (you decide how much)
For every head of lettuce use:
1 can mandarine oranges, drained
1 can pineapple chunks, drained
1/4 cup favorite nuts (pecans)
1/4 cup cranberries or raisins
1/2 cup fat free shredded cheese (optional)
1 bottle of dressing for the crowd poured and mix or the side.
Experiment with various types of lettuce, (try butter lettuce for a luxurious salad texture)
Add tomatoes if desired.
