Question

I have to go Friday morning to get some lab work done and I have to drink that "orange" drink they make you take like 4 times to test the glucose level. How would I "count" that in the way of points?? I'm sure it's full of some kind of calories. Just what I want to do, waste points of a drink...

Re: Question

The folks at the lab should be able to answer that question for you. Is this a test for diabetes?

Re: Question

Carrie- just looked up Glucola which is the drink usually used. It has 300 calories per bottle. No fat or fiber. Did the Dr. tell you to eat normally or high carb for 3 days before the test? When I had the glucose tolerance test a couple years ago I was on a low carb diet and the test didn't pick up my diabetes because my body hadn't been challenged by the high carbs the days before. When you go to the lab ask them to show you the bottle and take the NI from that. Good luck.

Re: Question

Yes, they are testing for diabetes. 300 calories. OMG! That's insane. I remember when I was pregnant and they had to test me for gestational deabetes, I had to drink that stuff 4 times!!

I have to be fasting so many hrs. before the test. They didn't say about eating high carb or not and a specialist is the one that referred me for the test. Hmm...wondering if I should call her office and ask???

Re: Question

Carrie,
Good luck on your test. I had to do that when pregnant and hated it. I don't think they want you to modify your diet in any way because they want to get an accurate test according to your normal diet. Just follow their instructions for the fasting part of it in the morning. Let us know how things turn out for you.

Re: Question

A friend of mine who has 100 lbs to lose had blood work done and shes borderline diabetic.
she came to WW as her doctor suggested, she lost
30 lbs and next blood test, she might be able to stop the medication..
she no longer has to take prilosec for heartburn since she changed her eating habits..

Its amazing how food can destroy a body, when we think its sooooo good... junk that is....

Re: Question

Tobe, that is so true; foods can destroy us or they can do the opposite if you eat healthy. That's amazing your friend no longer has to take some of her medications.

I've been diagnosed with a hypothyroid and will begin treatment around March 10; which is my next appt. after all this blood work. I've lost a lot of hair and still suffer from migraines that come on "all the sudden." After I had my son, I was tested for the diabetes and was negative 2.5 years ago. I was negative with the few tests they did this past Jan. but the specialist said there were a couple tests that my PCP could have ordered and didn't so therefore we are doing every test for diabetes there is to see if that may have anything to do with the headaches before we start treatment.

I'll keep you all posted, will be couple weeks before I know anything - after next appt.

And...I just found out the week I'm supposed to begin thyroid medication I have to go to Chicago for a mandatory work trip. I'm not comfortable starting medication and being away from my comfort zone. I really need to start meds soon b/c by 5:00 I feel like I've been ran over by a bus--severe exhaustion!! Ugh!

Re: Question

Carrie
I'm on thyroid medication, you can take it and nothing will happen out of the ordinary except make you feel better.

If it was me, I'd take it as soon as possible, you'll feel a million per center better, trust me on this one...

Re: Question

Tobe,

I know I can't physically put it off much longer. I am so exhausted that I cannot work out - haven't since the middle of Jan. I feel like by the time I get off work (and I have a desk job w/no stress) that I'm going to die b/c I'm so tired. My endocrinologist wants me to not give it up, but do 3 10 min. workout sessions a day. I just know I miss working out and cannot wait to feel better so I can resume my life.
