Ship Hindoo

I am wondering if there were two ship Hindoo which sailed about the same time from England/Wales to New York. My 2nd great grandfather Llewellyn Williams arrived in New York on the 2nd of May, 1844 from Liverpool on the ship Hindoo. The manifest lists Samuel Proctor as master. Llewellyn's mother Anne (Lloyd) Williams, wife of Thomas and Llewellyn's two sisters, Winnefred and Harriet were also aboard the ship. Thomas was not listed, but I believe a brother of his, John, accompanied the rest of the family. Thomas and Anne were married at St Faiths Parish of Llanfoist on 22 Feb, 1835. Llewellyn was born on 20 Sep 1838. I can find no record of when Thomas emmigrated to the US. The entire family was listed in the 1841 Wales census in Llanwenarth, Monmouthshire, and then appears together again in the 1850 U.S. Federal census in Bloss, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.

Re: Ship Hindoo

Hi David,

There was indeed another ship named Hindoo, 266 tons. She was registered at Liverpool in 1844, and she appears on the Merchant Nay List until at least 1870. Her official registration number was 5609.

Regards,

Keith.
