Re: Programming E series

Gerald,
You need to get your hands on the "E Series Operations Manual". The part number is NJI-004(X).

Unfortunately, it is not available in electronic form (PDF) for download.
We do stock this manual for sale, but you may be able to find it locally.
Hitachi does have a manual for the PGM-JR2, which is necessary (only) if you need to use all the feature of the PGM-JR2 (like the EPROM burner, or the serial interface). But just for the normal programming functions, these are covered in the "E" series manual mentioned above. If you do find that you need the PGM-JR2 manual, it is part number NJI049(X). Again, if you cannot find it locally, we do carry this manual in stock.

I do not know if Hitachi intended for the NJI-004(X) Operations Manual to be used as a PLC tutor, but it actually does a pretty good job. The "E" series capabilites are discussed in sufficient detail to be understandable, and in addition, examples are given in (LD) ladder, and in (IL) Instruction List, which is what you use to program with the PGM-JR2. As I mentioned, there is an entire section devoted to the hand-held programmers, so you may not even need the 2nd manual.

If you take your time and go through the manual actually keying the examples, you would have a fairly good basic understanding of PLC programming.

A PLC class might be better, but this method allows you to go at your own pace, and to go as in-depth as you want.
Hope this helps Gerald!
