Re: Software for J-Series

Dear Misic Nadar,

The "short" answer, is ActSip-E.

However, Software is only 50% of the answer. The other half of the equation is hardware - that is to say, some hardward will be required to interface with your J-Series Processor.

You will notice on your CPJ base unit, there is a 16 pin connector intended to accept a ribbon cable connector. There are two devices which provide this interface. The first, "PIF-J" is rare. The second is "PGM-JR2", and is readily available. The PIF-J is a serial protocol interface (period), whereas the PGM-JR2 is actually a "Universal Programmer". It doubles as a hand-held programmer as well as a serial protocol interface. In addition, it can burn a EPROM, and even print directly to a Serial Printer; functions which helps offset its high price.

So, lets say you have a PGM-JR2. You will then need ActSip-E-C programming software. A cable is included in the kit to connect from the DB25 connector in the PGM-JR2 to your laptops COM port. The software itself is DOS based, but works in virtually all Windows© platforms.

ActSip-E programs in either Ladder Logic (LD) or Instruction Set (IS). You can create, upload, download, and document your project. There are three forms of on-line monitoring for troublshooting.

The J-Series was manufactured from 1984 to 1992 and other than the hand-held programmers, parts are no longer available. (Exception: There is also a manual available for this unit -Part number SI-E075P.)
As your CPJ is 16+ years old (at the newest), you are wise in getting your project documented. If it should fail, the project can be used (with slight modification) in the Micro-EH, which is the suggested replacement.

I hope this information helps. There is more information on ActSip on this website.
