AND, IT COULD BE YOU THAT NEEDS HELP NEXT TIME. AFTER ALL...(REALLY?).. ARE WE NOT ALL "CHILDREN" - AT VARIOUS POINTS ON THE LEARNING CURVE OF TECHNOLOGY" ??? (I know I've still got a lot to learn and I've been at it for... well since 1970!)
Hopefully the information presented here will help provide solutions to some of today's automation challenges. Some issues are probably old, some are probably new. Many are products of the economy, the resultant reduction in manpower, exacerbated by aging equipment crippled by decreases in maintenance budgets. The ULTIMATE goal here is that we all become more successful in our careers and chosen professions.

Bob - I can't believe someone hasn't asked this question before now. Pat yourself on the back for being the First!!! (Well, on this Forum, anyway.)
OK, here we go! (This is actually pretty straightforward, and you'll be surprised you didn't think of it on your own.)
Printing from DOS with a Print Server
•TCP/IP must be installed for any DOS based Network printing.
I. Using DOS without MS Windows
1.Type C:> Net use LPT2: PSXXXXXXP1
2.Tell each program to print from LPT2.
II. Using DOS inside of MS Windows
1.Click Start > Settings > Printers.
2.Right-click the printer, and select Properties. The printer properties displays
3.Click Details > Capture Port.
4.Select which LPT port to use — any number from 2 to 9 (If there are problems with this port being in use select another port.).
5.Underneath, type the path for the print server. Example: PS
6.Click OK.
7.Go to “print to the following port” within the details section and choose LPT2
8.Each program printing from DOS should be set to print to LPT2.
I trust this will shed some light on a question that has bugged some for years.
