Re: Cable for EC2

Dear Andy,

The EC/EC2 has a little round connector under the door flap on the (left) face of the unit. That connector, is a European style mini-DIN 9 pin connector. And yes, you can make the cable yourself. I've pulled a page from a document we provide in the software kits which shows the cable pin-out. You can download it by clicking here.
Two other things I should bring to your attention - (1) the downloaded software you mention may be a DEMO version - which means it only allows a limited number of rungs to be uploaded/downloaded. You have to purchase the license to unlock the software to full functionality. (2) The little switch by the mini-DIN connector selects the protocol and (this is the important part) is ONLY read by the PLC during "power-up". So if you change the setting, you have to reboot (gee, that sounds like Microsoft, doesn't it...). BTW, COM2 = Communications Mode Protocol #2 (does NOT mean COM Port 2 on your laptop - common mistake). COM2 is what you should use 9 times out of 10. Hope this helps.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
Best Regards,
