Hopefully the information presented here will help provide solutions to some of today's automation challenges. Some issues are probably old, some are probably new. Many are products of the economy, the resultant reduction in manpower, exacerbated by aging equipment crippled by decreases in maintenance budgets.  The ULTIMATE goal here is that we all become more successful in our careers and chosen professions.

      MAYBE THIS FORUM CAN HELP!!!

Hitachi E-64HR HIZAC

Howdy,

I have an old Goodspeed Back knife lathe CP1250AP with the above plc, and I am wondering if you have the program for it? It isn't running the correct automatic sequence. I am also wondering how to get a program into the plc.

Dear Rulon Keate,
Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in our products.
The Hitachi “E” series has been a very durable unit. It was produced from 1986 to 1995, and like yours, there are still many in service 15 years after they were discontinued.
The “E” is programmed in one of two ways. The first method involves a hand-held programmer. There are two available: PGM-J and PGM-JR2. Although the differences between the two are significant, the main attribute is that they program in “mnemonic” language. If you are not familiar with this, mnemonic programming is somewhat like Boolean. I’ll show an example in a moment.
The second method involves using a device called a “serial protocol Interface” (I/F for short). The I/F is placed on the “E” series, and a cable connects it to your laptop PC. A software program runs on your laptop, called ActSip-E. This software allows you to program in mnemonic and/or Ladder Logic. Now for the example.

Basically, you have the (LD) as it would appear on your laptop screen (in ActSip). The instructions on the right are the actual commands you would key on the hand-held programmer for the equivalent circuit.

I mentioned earlier that the difference between the two hand-held programmers was significant. Both use Mnemonic for programming. However, the PGM-JR2 actually IS also the “Serial Protocol Interface” (I/F). This, plus the fact that the PGM-JR2 has a built-in EPROM burner, accounts for the significant difference in price between the two programmers.

It takes a bit of extra work to convert your (LD) work into mnemonic, but if price is an issue, the PGM-J is much less money. If you have multiple “E” series, then the difference in price (even taking into account the cost of the software), will pay for itself in short order, just in the time saved.

I trust I have answered your questions Rulon. If not, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss this further.
Best Regards,
Timothy
