AND, IT COULD BE YOU THAT NEEDS HELP NEXT TIME. AFTER ALL...(REALLY?).. ARE WE NOT ALL "CHILDREN" - AT VARIOUS POINTS ON THE LEARNING CURVE OF TECHNOLOGY" ??? (I know I've still got a lot to learn and I've been at it for... well since 1970!)
Hopefully the information presented here will help provide solutions to some of today's automation challenges. Some issues are probably old, some are probably new. Many are products of the economy, the resultant reduction in manpower, exacerbated by aging equipment crippled by decreases in maintenance budgets. The ULTIMATE goal here is that we all become more successful in our careers and chosen professions.

As you are probably aware, the "P-Series" Hitachi was produced from 1979 through 1993. As with all the "P-Series", all programming is/was done via the Programming Console. As laptops were not yet readily available, and (desktop) computers were too expensive to bring out on the plant floor, there was really no need for serial ports. The point of which is, there really is no other option but to use the Programming Console (alas).
I have checked with Hitachi Japan, and the consoles are no longer available, nor will Hitachi attempt to repair them. You can always try a trusted electronics repair house. We have never seen one on eBay, nor have we been contacted by anyone willing to give up theirs (even for a price). So treat yours with TLC while you search for other options.
