Re: E-40HR

Allow me to answer your question by presenting an excerpt from the "Upgrade to EC2" document (which can be viewed in its entirety here on our website).

"The “E”-Series, like its predecessor - the “J”-Series, had no internal or on-board serial port....   Simply use the PGM-JR2 “Universal Programmer” for communications to an (IBM) PC.   The PGM-JR2 is a multi-function tool, which, among other things, acts as a “protocol converter”, allowing you to cable directly from the DB25M port to your PC serial port. "

From this, you may gather than first you have to use a "protocol converter".  In this case, the PGM-JR2.  Next, you would use a cable such as the ActCab-PGMJ, or a cable with the following pin-out.

Finally, to the software.  The "Globally Recognized Software Creator Partner" for Hitachi is Actron A.B. of Sweden.  The first choice of Programming Software for Hitachi "E" series users, is ActSip-E-C.  This DOS based package comes complete with manual and (appropriate) cables.

By upgrading to the current product (the EC2), you can eliminate the need for the PGM-JR2, once the program you are currently using has been converted (meaning the I/O re-allocated) for use in the EC2.  As the EC2 does have a Serial Port, one can directly cable from the PLC to your laptop/desktop PC.  The cable for this (also included in the software), is the ActCab-EC2 (pin-out below).

Hopefully, this (rather long-winded) explanation will provide you with the information you require.

Good Luck with your project!
