Hopefully the information presented here will help provide solutions to some of today's automation challenges. Some issues are probably old, some are probably new. Many are products of the economy, the resultant reduction in manpower, exacerbated by aging equipment crippled by decreases in maintenance budgets.  The ULTIMATE goal here is that we all become more successful in our careers and chosen professions.

      MAYBE THIS FORUM CAN HELP!!!

You know the rules - ADVERTISING IS NOT ALLOWED  !

This area is for we, :

Re: Hitachi EMII Series PLC

ActWin software comes in two forms. If your version is recognizing the "EC", then it is the correct version for the EMII.

The software has to "know" what it is connected to. Only then, will it be able to advise you, for example, if you are attempting to use an incorrect address ('X' input address used as a 'Y' output address). You will have to "right click" on the Hardware Configuration, and "build" the system in the software. The goal is to make the Hardware Configuration match what is connected in the "real world". The software knows that you must first choose a base (on the EMII - the EC is a "fixed I/O" type). Then it knows you need a power supply for the first slot. Next comes the processor with a memory module. Then come the digital and analog I/O. The "drop down" lists give you the appropriate prompts, and allow you to use generic terms as well as specific (16-Point Relay Output - or - POM-RBW).

Next, the switch on the front of the processor should remain in the COM2 (Communications Mode Protocol 2) position. Do not be confused by COM1/COM2 - they have nothing to do with your COM port on your PC. If you were using ActSip software rather than ActWin, you would have to select "Mode 2" Protocol. You do not have to do this with ActWin, because it already knows (from the Hardware Configuration).

Lastly, the switch on the circuit board of the processor are as follows: Switch one selects the (serial) transmission speed between 9600 and 4800 baud rate. Default is "ON" or 9600 baud. Switch two is the "Operation Control". Default is "OFF". This switch works in conjunction with the FUN98 command in the first line of your program. It is used to determine under which conditions your EMII enters into "RUN" mode. Refer to your EMII Users Manual for more on these switches. Or, contact me directly if you need more help.

P.S. If you are using an "unlicensed" version, the word DEMO will appear during startup of the program. Under DEMO your program is limited to (approx) 80 steps.

Happy PLCing!
