Re: em2 plc

Thank you for posting your question on our Web Forum.

Where did you come up with “EM2”? The “EMII” is one of the most popular PLC families for Hitachi. Was this (em2) written on some documentation – or somewhere on the PLC?

OKU Automatik as you are probably aware, is a German company. If I had to make a guess as to the manufacturer, my first guess would be Siemens. My second guess would be Sprecher & Shuh. My third would be Hitachi. The Hitachi PLCs however, are not any shade of green. The standard color is a “Tan” or “Beige”. I say standard, because Hitachi also produced the EMII in black, for Reliance Electric. If they really are green, and it is not a trick of the lighting, then they are probably not Hitachi.

The Hitachi EMII series modules have their part number on the top tab. Tab, top and bottom, are used to extract the cards from the rack. Most cards also have their model numbers written on the printed circuit material.

Please let me know if we can be of further assistance.

Re: em2 plc

em2 is written on the face of the PLC and is the name of the configuration software. The PLCs are definitely a neon or lime green color.

I looked on the one of the I/O cards and found "tele" I have also managed to find a website for tele, but the site does not mention anything about plcs. Thank you for your help!

Re: em2 plc

Chris,

Whenever Hitachi makes reference to this series, they always (for some reason) use the Roman Numeral II, not (2). And, as I mentioned, the “standard” color is beige.

That said, they did produce the EMII in black for Reliance Electric. And furthermore, Samsung did brand label the EMII – using the same part numbers. They (Samsung) called the series “HIBRAIN”.

As far as the configuration software, several companies around the world and over the years, have produced software for the Hitachi “E” series (includes the EMII). I believe that Logitek of Spain may have referred to their software as EM2 – I’m not certain.

Here is a thought. If you can look at the very first line of ladder logic, we may be able to confirm this. In ALL cases, the first line of logic for the EMII HAS to be: two contacts followed by FUN98(RUN).

This is the command for the processor to go into RUN mode. If this line is missing, the CPU will NEVER go into RUN mode.

So if your first line looks like the example, you definitely have an EMII. If not, the unit is “mislabeled”, and you have something else indeed.
