Lighthouse PLCs, Inc. : Automation Forum

THE PURPOSE OF THIS FORUM IS: AUTOMATION SOLUTIONS.  IF YOU ARE A PERSON INVOLVED IN SOME ASPECT OF AUTOMATION, HAVE AN APPLICATION YOU JUST CAN'T QUITE GET A HANDLE ON  - HAVE A PRODUCT QUESTION - OR MAYBE HAVE AN ISSUE WITH SOMETHING (EVEN IF IT IS WITH US    ), IT IS POSSIBLE YOU WILL FIND THE ANSWER HERE!!

OR,  IF YOU  ABSOLUTELY KNOW  THE ANSWER, OR EVEN THINK  YOU KNOW THE ANSWER, THEN JUST POST IT! MAKE THAT REPLY!

Hopefully the information presented here will help provide solutions to some of today's automation challenges. Some issues are probably old, some are probably new. Many are products of the economy, the resultant reduction in manpower, exacerbated by aging equipment crippled by decreases in maintenance budgets.  The ULTIMATE goal here is that we all become more successful in our careers and chosen professions.

      MAYBE THIS FORUM CAN HELP!!!

You know the rules - ADVERTISING IS NOT ALLOWED  !

This area is for we, :

Re: EM Series

Thank you for posting in our forum.

Either programmer you mention will (a) visually present the program running in the CPM-E processor, and (b) allow you to save the program on a cassette tape. By having the program on cassette tape, you can upload it into (the same or) another processor. The PGM-JR(2) also features a serial port, which allows direct connection to a (IBM)PC. There is software available, which will allows one to save the program (on HD or floppy).

The other advantages to using the software is by being able to analyze the program (in near real time) in Ladder Logic form. The hand-held programmers only display the program in “Instruction Set” (NOT Ladder Logic). “Instruction Set” presents the information in Boolean type Logic (and, or, NOT, etc.).

The newest version processor for the EM series is the CPM-E3. This processor has the serial port built-in, so you do NOT need the PGM-JR2 to communicate to your laptop. If you plan on using the software, you may wish to consider upgrading to this processor, because you can (nearly) get three (3) CPM-E3 for the price of (1) PGM-JR2. The CPM-E3 also provides a “real-time” clock. The CPM-E3 is 1.5µSecond/command as opposed to 5µSecond/command on your existing CPM-E processor. This means that the scan is performed in approximately a third of the time (better performance).

The memory module you currently use in the CPM-E processor (probably a MPM-1E or MPM-2E) will work without alteration or modification. Simply unplug it from the existing CPM-E processor, plug it into the new CPM-E3, reinsert in the rack and reapply power. No tools required.

I hope this information helps!
