THE PURPOSE OF THIS FORUM IS: AUTOMATION SOLUTIONS.  IF YOU ARE A PERSON INVOLVED IN SOME ASPECT OF AUTOMATION, HAVE AN APPLICATION YOU JUST CAN'T QUITE GET A HANDLE ON  - HAVE A PRODUCT QUESTION - OR MAYBE HAVE AN ISSUE WITH SOMETHING (EVEN IF IT IS WITH US    ), IT IS POSSIBLE YOU WILL FIND THE ANSWER HERE!!

OR,  IF YOU  ABSOLUTELY KNOW  THE ANSWER, OR EVEN THINK  YOU KNOW THE ANSWER, THEN JUST POST IT! MAKE THAT REPLY!
YOU ARE PROBABLY RIGHT ON THE MARK, AND MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP SOMEBODY OUT!!

AND, IT COULD BE YOU THAT NEEDS HELP NEXT TIME. AFTER ALL...(REALLY?).. ARE WE NOT ALL "CHILDREN" - AT VARIOUS POINTS ON THE LEARNING CURVE OF TECHNOLOGY" ???  (I know I've still got a lot to learn and I've been at it for... well since 1970!)

Hopefully the information presented here will help provide solutions to some of today's automation challenges. Some issues are probably old, some are probably new. Many are products of the economy, the resultant reduction in manpower, exacerbated by aging equipment crippled by decreases in maintenance budgets.  The ULTIMATE goal here is that we all become more successful in our careers and chosen professions.

      MAYBE THIS FORUM CAN HELP!!!

upgrade Hitachi E-64

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am using Hitachi PLC E-64HR but I know that it was not manufactured. So I want to find the manual and software to upload the program inside this CPU and download it to another new PLC such as EC series. Can you show me how to find the manual and software?

Thanks and best regards.

Re: upgrade Hitachi E-64

You are correct in that the Hitachi “E” series is no longer available. The “E” was replaced by the “EB”, which was replaced by the “EC”. Some installations (including situations like yours where you are replacing a 64I/O unit) require the additional flexibility of the EMII system. The good news is that the program running in your “E” will work in the “EC” and/or the "EMII". There are some changes that have to be made to the I/O addresses. For example, the first available output on your “E” was address Y50. The first available output on the “EC” is Y200. So one has to go into the program, and tell all the Y50 addresses that they are now Y200. Y51 becomes Y201, and so forth. This is actually quite a simple task with the programming software. Some of the input address have to be changed, and the retentive and non-retentive memory addresses have to be changed. There is a text file included with the software which explains how to do this. The recommended software is called ActSip-E-C.

Let’s address how to get the program out of your existing “E” series and into the upgrade "EC" or "EMII". There are two methods available to you. Both involve hand-held programmers.

Please allow me to discuss the two methods.

  • PGM-J ; Standard Programmer. When attached to your “E” series, the PGM-J displays the program in a language called “Instruction Set”. You would have go through the program one step at a time and record what is shown on the LED display. When complete, this list would then be keyed into the programming software (ActSip-E-C). Once entered (and saved), the program can then be viewed in Ladder Logic. This is because ActSip programs in either Instruction Set or Ladder Logic. Once the program is in ActSip, it can then be changed to work in the EC, as described above.

  • PGM-JR2 ; Universal Programmer. The Universal Programmer can do everything the Standard Programmer does, plus several other tasks. The most important of which, is the serial protocol converter. The PGM-JR2 connects in the same fashion as the PGM-J. However, it has a serial port built in, which allows direct connection to your laptop PC. So instead of having to “read” the program in the “E” series one step at a time, the entire program can be downloaded to the laptop. Once again, the I/O allocation is altered so that it will work in the EC2, just as described above.

  • ActSip-E-C ; Complete programming software for E,EB,EC, and EM. Contains manual, software, cables, and license files. DOS based.

I hope this helps explain the process in upgrading your "E" series.
Good Luck with your project!
