District 1-6a predictions

District 1-6A Predictions :fire: :fire: :football: :football:
#1- Franklin
#2- Americas
#3-Coronado
#4- Pebble Hills
#4- Montwood
#6 - El Paso Socorro

Overall MVP- (Franklin QB)Danny Walther and (Americas RB)Aaron Dumas
Defensive MVP- (Franklin LB)David Powers
Offensive MVP- (Pebble Hills QB-Sebastian Ochoa)

1-6a should be interesting to watch week by week. You have five really good coached teams with different types of arsenal that could really beat each other, well aside for Socorro.

#1- Franklin returns to defend their crown, judging on last year results they are doing something great in that program (3 district championships). Returning on offense is the Nucleus of that offense QB Danny Walther which accounted for 2,800 yards and 33 TDS. His favorite Targets return in WR/DB Stonewall (940 yards and 13TDs), WR Haack, WR/DB Warthen, and TE Moreno. They return 3 on that Physical line in Baca, Diaz, and Smith. RB Gutierrez should emerge at Running Back. All City and District MVP LB Powers returns to anchor the Defense. Shutdown DB’s Warthen and Stonewall will be called on when needed. Other key returners on defense should be LB Garcia, DE Bristol, DE Dorset, DB Ananabi, DB Jurado, and DB Jurado. A high flying offense should be fun to watch, the defense needs to step up if they wish to go more than one deep in the playoffs.

#2- Americas returns to try and take that #1 spot. They return all State and overall District MVP workhorse RB Dumas (2,300 yards rushing) along with 9 total offensive returnees. Other key players on that offense will be Dual Threat QB Sandoval, Wr Acosta (687 yds.) G Nunez will anchor that hard working offensive line. DB Chisholm, LB Martinez, DE Guzman, S Saldivar, LB Carraveo, DT Donnelley, DE Velarde all return on that defense. That running game is almost unstoppable in the city however once they get in to the playoffs it is a different story. They need to open up their offense to better match up with those teams come playoff time.

#3- Coronado- They are back to make another run, last year they finished #2 district and this year they look to return to the playoffs. Offensive wise, QB Carney will lead the T-Birds he will have big targets in WR Davis Burns, TE Cox, and WR Levesque. Hard nose RB/LB Samaniego appears he will take on running back duties. On defense S Davis along with DT Ortiz and DT Apsey will anchor the defense. Coronado has the offensive tools to get to work, however they must find a nucleus on the defense to compete week in and week out.

#4- Pebble Hills Returns QB Ochoa (2,600 yds. and 30TDs) along with key targets WR Davis and WR Salazar. DE Romero and DB Clemmons, DL Pomele, and DB Davis should lead the defense. Year #1 2-8, Year #2 8-3, Year #3 5-6. The Spartans are coming off back to back playoff berths. However many expected Pebble Hills to me competing for district championships and they have not been able to do so. This year will prove to be challenging as QB Ochoa will be keyed on heavily by opposing teams. Other playmakers will have to emerge to continue that playoff streak.

#4- Montwood Rams only return 6 starters. In the last three years they have been district champs 2 times, they did however miss the playoffs last year. WR/RB Ramos should be someone to watch on offense as well as WR Morales. On defense LB Escobar and DL Escobar will lead the defense. It remains to be seen who will take over the reigns at QB. The competition is between QB Galvan and QB Flores. OL Gonzalez, Miranda, Sauls, and Valadez should anchor the offensive line. Once again the Rams find themselves in a similar situation a tough district with not a lot of returning starters. Will the Rams Coaching staff be able to put all the pieces together for another playoff berth? That remains to be seen.

#5 Socorro has themselves a new head coach. A team that won no district games a year ago looks to be competitive. Leading the Bulldogs will be QB Williams, along with WR/RB Martinez and OL Alvarado. On defense LB De La Torre and LB Medina look to lead the defense. Socorro has not been to a playoff game and a very long time. Will Socorro improve? Only time will tell.

Division I players (thus far)
1. Franklin WR/DB Stonewall
2. Coronado WR/DB Davis
3. Coronado TE/DE Cox

Bi-District
Franklin and Coronado should be able to win bi-district over Odessa and Odessa Permian in the Large or Dl playoffs. Whomever the Small or Dll teams are will have to face tough competition in Amarillo Tascosa and Midland Lee

Good overall breakdown. Just a few things to look at. Sandoval moved out of town and Americas has a very athletic QB taking his place. Also I will warn people to not sleep on the Americas passing game. Sir Drennan is a big time weapon with his speed and terrific hands.
Socorro will also have a change at QB with Williams moving to receiver. They are getting a good sized lineman that can go both ways and has good size and athleticism. I am not saying they'll win more games but they may keep some games interesting.
Pebble Hills lost Devean Deal who is a threat as a receiver and would've been a great rush end if needed. Also K Gordon at running back. He has speed and power. He moved to Georgia. Ochoa is a good leader and they still have weapons on the outside. Their biggest issue is they are small on the interior D-line. Teams will attack this area relentlessly until they can prove they can used their speed to offset the size disadvantage.
Ramos at MHS is the truth and I hope he stays healthy and they feed him the rock. Morales is a great route runner and has suction cups for hands. They have the depth to compliment him at the opposite receiver spot.
Sorry I know nothing about Franklin and Coronado outside of what I read here and DCTF.
