Hi all you M IES, Gary Cooper here ex Kat December 12th 1958 to March 1st 1960, Engine Mechanic on Staging Aircraft Servicing Flight. I would like to see this develop into a forum for ex RAF Ground Crew the likes the web has not seen before. So come on pull up a chock, break open a bottle of TIGER and open the hangar doors, well Kat did have two hangars at ASF not counting the RCyAF ones!

I think the hut I was in was 232 mind you I expect my pit was somewhere to be found between a monsoon drain and the NAAFI normally!.

I was at the above stations the same as Gary. Arriving April 57 and departing Sep 2nd. 59.I was an inst Nav fitter plus general dogsbody like most of us there during this period. I cannot remember to much about my leaving it was my birthday and needless to say plenty of liquid was taken the night before. Met some very good mates there some of whom I remain in contact mainly through Gary Coopers stirling work

RAF Katunayake

These pages are a real nostalgia trip.
Ceylon was such an exotic place and the base was a unique environment.
I was at RAF Katunayake Aug 57 to January 1960. We arrived on The Empire Orwell via Suez and left on a chartered Brittania via Bombay and Istanbul. My father was at Senior Tech W J Webb (Bill) and ran the Servicing Section MT. I went to the little school there, which we could see from the front of our Quarters and from the back we could see the SGTs Mess. Thank you to all those people who have built these sites and posted the photos
