Good Morning, Folks. Take a look out your window this morning- can you see it on the horizon? It's the end of the season- and for many teams, it is closer than you think. Though it seems that we just started this whole thing last week- the end of the 2007 season is not at all far away. Some teams will have the privilege to play in post season tournaments- but for most- the next couple of weeks will be the end. When you are sitting in your living room in January thinking about the season past- one hopes that you have no regrets- that you left every last bit of effort on the field. Because for many, there really is no tomorrow. With that abiding sense of urgency, let's get to it!
St Joe County @ South Central
Sean, Mario & G-Rod form the core of a team that has a lot to be proud of despite not having any love in the win column. It sounds like a cliche to say that this team is a lot better than their record, but most any team that has faced them will tell you exactly that. The Thunder offense never hit its stride in 2007 and just could not find the end zone with any regularity. The Broncos' dominance in the IFL, forfeits and drama aside, is approaching something pretty special. The lack of inspiring offense aside, the Broncos' defense has carried the team to nearly 30 straight league wins. The combination of a dominant SCB defense and a long struggling SJC offense spells certain doom for the Thunder. Pending a possible merger in 2008- the Thunder will be back with serious improvement next season. Mark my words.
West Ohio @ Kosciusco County
Good Old Thad Kosciusco- the Polish soldier for whom the county is named- would be right proud of the accomplishments of the Mustangs in 2007. Aside from a slip up against the Generals, the Mustangs have looked sterling. The offense is predictably efficient and productive and the defense is opportunistic. The improvement for the Mustangs in 2007 has been line play. The veteran hogs have really played well together. Brandon brings the Wranglers up for the long trip to Warsaw knowing the uphill battle that his squad faces and has no delusions. The Wranglers will hit hard and play to the whistle, but will run out of gas chasing Mustang receivers. The Wranglers are 4 solid players away from a much better team- but have enough heart and discipline to populate a 50 man roster.
Mercer County @ Indiana
The Cougars find themselves in unfamiliar territory as they enter the playoffs in 2007: not among the top seeds. Anyone in Ft. REcovery can tell you, though, that the team is only a few plays away from being 6-2 or even 7-1. The Cougars have lost very little since last season- and still have all the tools to play with the elite of the IFL. The Generals are riding an unprecedented wave of momentum. Troy finally has almost all the pieces he has been waiting for and last week's very near upset of the Broncos left no doubt of that. The Generals' offense has been explosive at times and the defense has been brilliant in short spurts. On paper, this is a clear Generals victory. Given, however, that the Cougars have somehow found a way to lose the last 3 season- they are my pick to make some noise in the tournament and send the Generals home in shocking fashion.
Classic City @ Darke County
If there is anyone that doubts that Beef still has a few tricks up his sleeve, you've not been paying attention. Both of these teams are hungry and dangerous and either is a solid bet to play themselves into the title game in 2007. The Warriors have been up and down and seem always to play close to the level of their opponent. The Crush are doing an inverse of their performance in 2006, faltering down the home stretch. One thing is certain- this is going to be a physical game- and a game won on the ground. While the Crush are bigger, the Warriors are faster and more athletic. Given that the Crush are on the road and that they lack the big play threat they used to make the playoff run last year- this one goes to Beef and the Warriors who play another day.
Delaware County @ Miami County (OH)
Earl should most definitely change the name of his franchise to the Phoenix. His teams seem to burn up and fold around the third game of the season every year, but almost always rise from the ashes in time for the playoffs. When at full strength, the Chargers have made curious noise and seemed to approach the level of a respectable football team. On the road, though, they are often (when they show up) not a force to be taken seriously. Tater's Vikings have already achieved more in 2007 than many of us expected. The team, short of a few blow ups and some team bickering, has gotten better every week. The defense will make a few exciting plays in this one and will remind the whole organization of just how far they've come.
Columbus @ Hardin County
The Wolverines are damn sure that they have their eyes on the prize. The team has done just what the best teams must- taste defeat late in the regular season in order to avoid it in the post season. The mediocre Fire come to town hoping to play spoiler, but the HCW sights are locked in on the MCFL title and won't be stymied by the quick but understaffed Fire. The Columbus squad may put more points on the board than expected, but those scores will come in garbage time. Wolverines advance.
I feel blessed to "only" have so few games to call. It'll be an exciting weekend and I can't wait to hear all of the scores and details. Play your hearts out and make your mommas proud, boys.
im sorry supa but our corners will not run out of gas chasing receivers..give the mustangs much credit but dont over look the wrangler defense..we will bring it and not give up much...closer game than you predict..i give my word
ha ha ha we are not as fast and no big play threats we will see what you predictions will be after today. o and by the way we have the fastest receiver in the league.
dont bust his balls for his viewpoint and ummm. having ONE fast receiver probably wont win you a championship. good luck to you and your TEAM.
wranglers upset stangs 2-0 forfeit stangs started ragging and quit on the field
