Re: GDFL National Champions

Sounds like a great defensive game. The Warriors must have had a hell of a team to beat the Wolverines- truly worthy of a title. Congrats to the boys from Carolina and the GDFL for another great season of football.

MEMPHIS- The game of the season lived up to the hype as the Carolina Warriors defeated the Kentucky Wolverines in The GDFL National Championship Game I, 15-7. The Warriors and Wolverines went into the Gridiron Game with similar regular season’s records, but the Warriors proved to be the powerhouse team in the first matchup of the two franchises in league history.

The Wolverines were the first to draw blood as RB Moonie Cunningham rushed in a 43 yard score with approximately 10:16 remaining in the Second quarter to take a 7-0 lead. Warriors drove deep into Wolverine territory but fumble the ball on the Wolverine 3 yard line. Both Wolverines & Warriors offenses seem to be struggling throughout the First Quarter as both Defenses held strong.

The end of second quarter with .05 seconds before the half the Warriors field goal kicker George Penyack kicks a 35 yard field goal as the first half ends with score at half-time Wolverines 7 Warriors 3. The Warriors began to slowly drive down the field as they added QB/Mr. Everything #2 Travis Poitier who electrified the game Which caused the Wolverines problems as far as keeping him contained, he reminds you of so many different athletes stated Head Coach Jason Hemphill one in particular is Michael Vick. The Warriors move to the 1 yard line Travis scrambles and flicks a pass to #10 Tiyon Tolbert for a one yard TD pass as the Warriors take a 2pt lead Warriors 9 Wolverines 7, pat failed. QB Kendrick Johnson Wolverines mounted a counter attack drove the ball to about 20 yard line were there drive ended with a 27 yard missed FG try.

The Wolverines defense made some key stops that kept the game in doubt. The 4th was Wolverines final opportunity to narrow the point spread, but Nigel Prince Moore #80 of the Wolverines mishandled a punt on the 1 yard line#24 Andre Cooper recovered the fumble in the End Zone for A Warrior TD to put the Warriors up 15-7.

Wolverines had one last chance to mount an attack but the Warrior’s defense held, The Warriors offense obtained possession and watched the final seconds click off the clock as the team & fans erupted and made a mad dash for the Championship Trophy. Final Score Carolina Warriors 15 vs. Kentucky Wolverines 7
