PLC interchangeablity

Question: is a POM-RBW interchangeable with a POM-SW? Looking to repalce Relaince shark 45C965 modules.

[From web page:Hitachi Global Support Form]

Re: PLC interchangeablity

Sending your request through “Hitachi Global Support” is fine, but please feel free to contact us directly (much faster). Either way will get to us

The POM-SW is a “Triac” output. It is rated for AC whereas a transistor (like POM-TW) is only for DC. Of course the relay output (like POM-RBW) is rated for either AC or DC.

So there are (at least) three things to consider.

1) Current: The Triac ampacity is 1.0 - the Relay is rated at 2.0 amps (per circuit or point).
2) Voltage: The Triac is AC only – the Relay is AC/DC (both rated at 80~265VAC)

3) Price: The Triac card is about 40% higher

Generally you will find Triac are used for AC applications like panel lights that flash continually or similar applications where there is a high frequency of operations. Relays will handle more current, and are more “forgiving” on voltage spikes. In reality, either will work as a temporary replacement for the other in a pinch (except of course if DC is involved).

I trust this answers your question. If not, let me know!
