My natural father was in the BCATP. I suspect he has passed along, but I have been advised that I have half-brothers and sisters in England, whom I would dearly love to meet. A Robert Howe has registered on this website - but has not been heard from since passing through Gander, NFLD, some 7-8 years ago....\"\"

and I was at German Town in 1958, not 59

Numerous drafts one in question is HMAS Vampire 1962

Do you have any comments?

I am an ex RAN PO QMG who served on HMAS Vampire during 1962. I am seeking help or any assistance in establishing a MAY DAY call from a South African DC6B, The plane had refuelled at Gan and was heading towards Singapoer. Along with numerous number od SA nationals, the Commanding Officer or 2nd in command of RAF Gan was required to attend his daughters wedding in Singapore hence was a passenger onboard the flight. As we were under sail from Cylon to Singapore ourselves and being within easy sail time, we were asked to respopnd to this MAY Day call sign. This incident occured (due to fire in the wing) at approx 1400hrs on the 2nd of January 1962. Unfortunately, due to this incident, there were fatalities involved. The commanding Officer or 2IC survived the crash but spent a lenthy period in hospital at Singapore. After the recovery (which I was directly involved in), we resumed our passage to our F.E.S.R. to continue our duty. In 1963 The CO or 2IC had sufficiently recovered from his wounds and came onboard to thank the ship's company for saving his life. Unfortunately I don't remember his name or rank. Would any one serving on RAF Gan during this period recollect this particular incident? If there is any information forthcoming I would be very appreicable for any knowledge related to this matter. I thank you in advance.
